Hey Guys! omg this blog is sooooo DEAD. hahah :)

but anyway I'll still just post this here in case someone comes along. so yea.

oh ya I'm Rahayu btw. uh...newer members might not know me but I'm an alumni from TSMB Trombone section :) hey Tbonists!

Anyway so yea, Nanyang Poly Symphonic Orchestra will be having a concert this Fri at our auditorium. Admission is free :) we have many seats awaiting so call everyone to come! :D

this concert features the world premiere of a piece titled "Bicycle Chase" and there is a real treat for all saxophonists. We have Professor Vince Gnojek who is an awesome player playing with us and there will be 2 all saxophone pieces with guest players performing as well.

this concert also features Tanjong Katong Secondary School as our guest band.

Hello band, Adhi here your senior hehe. Those who don't know me I'm from clarinet and flute haha. Anyway here's the thing, I'm gonna leave the blog's management team. So I won't be able to blog here anymore, I think it's time for the juniors to let things going.

Firstly, please use this blog. Try to revive it, it's been dead for God knows how long. If you don't want to use this blog for updates then... I don't know.

Please remember to play as a band! Work hard for SYF next year, or should I say who will come soon. Time will fly. So yup, just work hard okay!

See you around in band hopefully, and remember to enjoy music always.

Internationally renowned saxaphonist Prof.Vince Gnojek will be joining us for the evening and he will be performing Jenkin's Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Esemble. Hey ppl!!!

Alrighty ppl,next band practice is tomorrow,2 Sept.It will starts at 3pm SHAARRPPP!!!!!!!!
I expect everyone who did not turn up last wednesday,26 Aug to come.Those who is unable to come MUST either produce a letter prescibed by a doctor or ur parents.Ohyeah,inform me or cravis beforehand if u are unable to come.
I hope all of you will be serious 2wards learning music and ESPECIALLY DRILLLS.It's not for tmr only but 4 every other band practice.There's always a time to be serious 2wards band and fun moments to enjoy within band.

Everything is okay just a little more details.

9 - 11 : Sec 1 - 3 will be having normal band practices.

11 - 12 : Rehearsal for formations etc

12 - 1 : Lunch together! Provided by teachers (I don't know the food)

Right, here is the day's programme. And for sec 1-4's please come to school for focus wearing half-U for convenience. If you can't make it for the POP/have to leave early/have any questions please inform Miss Portia.

What's up people, okay I have more details, or maybe full details about POP

For Sec 1-3 :

They will be having band at nine as usual. Not only will they be having band, but they will also practice their formations and stuff for POP later at one. Break will of course be given. Please bring your full band unirform and marching shoes and white/black socks.

For sec 4s :

You don't have to come for band, just come for the POP at one. So just go for your focus, go for a break after the focus and then we come back for POP. Please be reminded to bring your Full band uniform plus marching shoes and black/white socks.

As for the time, the POP will start at one o'clock, and end at around 2.30 - 3.30 (Sorry I couldn't catch Miss Portia just now, it's betweem those times lah hehe).

Any other thing SMS me/Cravis/Miss Portia haha. Or tag the board. And I will update again once I have other informations. See you there!

Ok to Qms: Please take note that the Qms are very important! Make sure you take care of your instruments! Treat your instrument like its your Bf/Gf ok! Well, theres nothing much to say since I talked to you all just now.. So remember the rules and I and Brenda will schedule one day to teach you guys what to do as Qm ok!?

To librarians and secretary: For more information please ask Syafiqah and Nisa or Suyi :) What I told you guys just now also please remember :P

To Dm and Bm:
Dm, remember. Voice out what you want to do and dont be shy. I know you are shy by nature but as a Dm, you have to tell the members what to do and what you feel in order to improve the band. Ask Chong Tuck to help you. He has been a great leader to us and hes always ready for challenges! And also, please keep the band quiet when Mr Subronto is teaching. Like I said just now, he is trying to convey to us a message so pay attention as it will be useful. Lastly, drills. The band's drill is going in a downward spiral so please teach them and make sure no one escapes fall in! Other than that, I believe the teachers chose you to be DM for a reason so good luck as the Dm and lead the band to success!

Bm, I know you are one of the most experienced players now so use your experience to your advantage. Please teach your juniors well as they need help to become good. This is vital as they will be the ones leading the band in future so yeah.. Since you are the Bm now, you cant play too much like you used to last time too. You have to set a good example for the juniors. But most of all, make the right decisions and keep the band disciplined. NO MORE SKIPPING BAND PRACTICES! JIA YOU!

Ok, I will be looking foward for the next band practice! SMALL BAND BIG SOUND! :P

People people! I have BAD news! Well not really bad though... I don't know.

POP has been POSTPONED to the second/third week of August!

This is because the 4 NA classes will be having their N-Level Prelim, hence the teachers will be busy with the paper checking and marking and yeah.

Mrs Lee also told me that the teachers want to make this event a proper and formal one. They don't wanna rush things up and the POP would turn into something disastrous.

And yes there will be dry runs and everything as well, so the sec 4's will be called up again to teach.

I will inform you guys on the exact date of POP again once I get the information.

Hello again people.

Okay I'm seriously confused now. Miss Portia told me POP is on Monday, now the band members are telling me that POP is on Saturday. And today Miss Portia told me that she needs the sec 4 to help out of POP practice on Saturday... I am confused!

I'll check again and tell any changes ASAP once I get it.

Today was alright I guess? I heard the band played for the first time in I don't know how many thousands of years. Band, you can do it, you can play better than that. But can't help it, I think half of the band just now was the sec one's so yup. Just work hard okay! You guys can do it!

Alright signing off, I am both sad and happy to step down. I'll miss band though, like seriously.

Hello people, how's band so far? I didn't manage to visit you all (except on Saturday). Personally I am very disappointed with some people.

Okay on Saturday, I went and I see some people not practising at all. You're given time to do sectionals and you better use them well! Don't sit there... Slack and do what you wish. Sec 3s and 2s, help the juniors! Don't let the juniors slack alongside to you as well.

Trombone section is good, they're the only section I saw that was practising so good keep it up. Jia Min also keep up the good work, your tone is not bad!

So please, sec 3s you're taking over us in like 7 days time. So prove it to us that you're able to lead the band well. Prove it to your seniors and alumni as well, maintain the standard of the band and improve, not simply ruin it.

Okay to the sec 4s, I asked Miss Portia about POP and she told me it's on next Monday, 3rd of August. Any further changes I'll inform you guys again.

To alumni, do come for the POP if you want, I'll post any changes made in the blog so please do update haha! (sound so... I don't know how to phrase it)

Sec fours, we don't have to attend it cause we'll be busy with focus :)

Hello people! How's life? Haha

Please take note that there will be no band until further notice. This is due to H1N1. I'm sure you all know it. With all these preventive measures. But as we all know, prevention is better than cure.

Those of you who bring back your instruments (I believe is ALL, but I know some "sneaks out") please practice okay. Just spend one hour a week or 10 min a day or two 30-min session per week. Practice makes perfect. And please remember your theories as well. You know the tests...

To the sec 4's, I'm not sure when is POP. Further information will be given later.

Okay just for sharing: Anyone interested to go to Yuhua band concert on Saturday, 11/7/2009? I'm helping a friend of mine to advertise haha. Tell me if you want to go alright. It's a Victoria Concert Hall by the way.

Alright take care of yourself, drink more water, eat more fruits and vegetables, wash your hands six times a day, stay at home when not feeling well. See you!

Anyway good news, there'll be band camp as Shafeeq mentioned earlier.

Bad news? I don't think it's going to be overnight! :(
Well Cheryl told me that and yeah, whew I want it overnight, it's no fun when it's not overnight right? Well sadly Miss Portia doesn't want it so too bad I guess.

How's the practicing going on? I hope you guys still practice and won't say "I can't play" when we get back again. And please don't forget your theory as well, I don't want to hear "What's a crotchet?" again. That's like the most surprising question lol.

HEY GUYS! Shafeeq here.. Im finally posting something lol! Ok, I would like to inform everybody that there might be a band camp on the 24th of June so be prepared :) Overnight or not, I'm not too sure. Since it will be focused on the sec3s and 2s, please rest well because it will be tiring.. And yeah, please come for this camp as it is like the most important one and we sec4s are taking some time off from studying to ensure this camp goes well so we will like to see everybody attend this camp :) So please keep that week free...

Ok next, I have been told that attendance has been very bad from the secretaries.. This is not good as everyone in the band plays an important part. This cca is a cca which needs teamwork and we can never succeed unless we work together. It isnt fair for some who always come for band and take that extra effort to turn up. Furthermore, YOU chose TSMB as your cca so you ought to come. No one can pick up an instrument and start playing beautifully right away. So how are you going to improve if you don't come for band? Remember it is a team effort. So please come. Trust me, band will help us when we are graduating to Poly, Jc etc.

Next, instrument care. We Qms are not too happy with the way some of you treat your instruments. We have been pumping some of you every week. This is not good at all. Our instruments should be given tender loving care and we should not let anything happen to it. You may not be the ones paying for damages but it is your duty to take care of your instruments. One more thing. I have seen a handful of you who do not help much when we need to carry our instruments for performances in the hall. I'm not saying all but there is some who just carry stands and chairs and not help with the bigger instruments like percussion. We have a shortage of manpower so please help. To those who always help, many thanks to you.

Ok lastly, drills. I have received some complaints that some people tend to skip fall in. Hey, we are a military band. Like it or not, we have drills. I repeat again, if you don't like it, you have no choice because YOU chose this CCA. So why not just do the drills. I am sure you know who you are so please, please don't skip it. Drills are done to keep the band disciplined and it not a form of torture so get it right. What's up people, I'm sure you all are happy cause there will be two week break before band will resume again right? Haha BUT. Don't forget to practice! Just spend like 30 minutes per every 3 days or 2, or you can even spend 10 mins each day to practice. Trust me, it helps you, A LOT.

Band will resume two weeks later on. Have a good break and good rest but don't forget to practice.
this includes the Sec 2's and 3's, not only the sec one's. I'll laugh my head off if the sec ones play better than you when they come back.

GOOD JOB LAST NIGHT! IT WAS SOOOOO COOL HAHA

Anyway yup, great job band, keep it up. It will be the last concert for the Sec 4's so.. All the best for the next batch of leaders. But always remember, people, we are a BAND, not individuals. So remember, we improve as one band, not one by one. By Mr Alvin btw.

Keep it up band, you guys can do it alright. Don't give up easily.

But I'm seriously pisssssed, PISSED by what the some of the sec 2's did yesterday. I was already angry at you all on Thursday and you guys did it again. Anyway I just hoped that this will never happen again.

Anyway next band practice is on next Wednesday 3/6. I'm not sure about the time, I'll confirm again later. Okay see ya then!

Hello people, back here again. I just wanna say, today's rehearsal was SUPERBLY FANTASTICALLY MARVELOUSLY GOOOOOOOOD! :D Give yourself a round of applause alright. I'm glad that you guys listen to what Mr Tan told you all and really improve in like... 2 days? Great great, good job. But remember, you guys must keep it up for tomorrow! Jia you alright.

But uhh there were some slips here and there. Cornets, do watch out for your tounging especially on bar 27, the one where you end bar B. Clarinets, do not rush at the beginning, and you guys play real loud so keep it up, but don't forget your tone. It must be round and not flat. Flutes (to me haha) try to maintain your tone, Mr Tan says we improved but still soft.

To the whole band, please please watch, watch, look, see the conductor! That is super duper important. Some of you guys were rushing just now so yeah.

Lower brasses were great, and to Jia Min, you CAN play, just be confident alright, you already proove to us that you can do great! Percussionist well done as well, but snare drum and xylo please play louder. Kyannda, you're doing fine and keep it up.

Okay tomorrow report at 2 P.M. at band room. It will be great if you guys can come in half-U do that it won't be so troublesome for all of you (changing etc). Do have a heavy lunch before you come. Drink lots of water and have enough sleep tonight.

Oh and one more thing. We (the sec 4's) DO NOT WANT to see any sec 2/3 members SLACKING. We were seriously unhappy because so far it was mostly the sec 4's who carried the percussion back to band room. And it was very pathetic to see a handful (I can count with one hand) of sec 3's and 2's helping us.

Please, you're in the band and you don't get any previllages, hello... Unless you break your arm or leg or neck then okay. So please tomorrow, we want to see more sec 3's and 2's helping. Whoever is found slacking will get something special form Cheryl.

Hello again band. There's practice as usual tomorrow but for main band only cause we're going to focus on our performance on Friday. Report at usual time, 3.15

And as for the latest update, there's another full dress rehearsal on Thursday. The same procedure will happen like today. Those who bring home your uniforms and shoes please remember to bring it again yeah.

Today, as you guys know, it wasn't good enough haha. I don't think I should repeat what Miss Portia and Mr Tan said today but just keep it in your mind. I think we did a few mistakes today. Firstly, we have no warm-up and tuning. We have to move the things as quickly as possible so that we have time to warm up and tune. Today we have so much ample time, but we couldn't make it on time because I don't know why. I think we should and can work this out.

And so please take good care, it's going to be a super busy week. Drink lots of water, fruit juice and have enough sleep :D And remember people, ENJOY the music, and music will enjoy you! Don't feel gloomy when playing, it's overture no one for wind band, a happy piece and it's so not a sad piece.

There will be band on Monday 25/06. Please report at 2.50 at the band room. Those who did not come last week please please please come, because we need you guys to practice your overture. But I know some of the people will be going for AEM so yeah.

And there will be a full dress rehearsal for Achiever's Day on Tuesday, details will be given tomorrow. This week's going to be a busy week so try to keep healthy everyone. Drink lots of water and eat vitamin C haha.

Some comments about our overture during rehearsal last Thursday by Miss Portia, lack of emotions! C'mon people, be happy when playing your music, it will make a huge difference you know. As for my observations, the crescendo at bar F is nice but the rest wasn't good enough. And don't forget the fortsando at the beginning of the piece. And don't rush too, and look at conductor at all times.

Hello people, be reminded that there is Achiever's Day Rehearsal tomorrow 21/05/2009 at 3.10 and attendance is COMPULSORY. Mr Subronto won't be coming so I'll be conducting. Give your best shot tomorrow hehe.

And sorry for the wrong information, the full dress rehearsal is on TUESDAY, 26th May instead of my previous post of Monday. There will be attire check by Samantha on Monday, so please tell her any thing you need for your uniform (Missing buttons etc).

For Achiever's day we'll be playing Overture one in hall. And we'll be playing at the foyer again, playing three songs (I'm not sure confirmed or not, cause many of you didn't turn up today), Abba Gold, Shrek Dance and That Thing You Do.

Please come for the next practices because we really need to practice hard for this upcoming event. And some of you may not be able to play those songs, so we need you to come back and practice. Alright that's all, ciao

Halo people, Adi here, I went to update the blog cause it seems so dead (it is maybe). Thanks to whoever post those lovely concerts repertoire coming up. I'm interested to go to the SYW concert tomorrow, anyone else?

Anyway how's life? I'm sure everyone is happy cause your MYE is over "except for the sec 4's who still have two more papers, or for some one" but exam over = band time! I think band's gonna resume next week, we still have a performance coming up so we gotta practice.

Yeah if you forget, we'll be playing Overture one for our Achiever's Day Concert. I miss that song BADD, I don't know why and I can't wait to play again. And it's super important to practice cause I'm sure after a super long period of time of not playing, you may lose your embouchure and it takes some times to regain it. And only through practicing that you'll regain it back.

Okay I think that's all for my update. I'll update more often I guess, better keep the blog alive! Okay see you all then, happy after exam!

Hey Peeps!!!
SYF is just in lets say.....2 day and a few hours plus plus?? Anyway....Wednesday at around 9.00 A.m, it will be the moment you guys have been working towards.....your central judging. I want to wish all TSMB members Good Luck and May God Watch Over You. However...thats not the only reason i am posting...what i want to say is....there is still improvements that can be made before SYF. I have a few aspects that i would like to cover with you guys....i know that almost 3/4s of the band wouldnt read this....but i hope the leaders or anyone who reads this...pls do something about it,it would be a little weird and funny for me to actually address this issue in front of the band...which might be too late....so....i am posting it here.

These aspects are......"Musicality"(utmost importance), "Appearance"," The way you carry yourself/as a band".

Alright...starting from the top..Work on tuning. Listen out for each other and adjust accordingly. For reeds, adjust by loosening/tightening jaw.
For brasses, adjust by tightening/relaxing embouchure. Flat tighten and sharp loosen.

Practice on articulation and dynamics. Do your accents, staccatos, slur, crescendo/decrescendos, fp, fff, mf, mp, p. Make the difference between the dynamics. (e.g. btw f & fff)

Move and sway along with the songs. Feel the beat. Entry come in strongly, don’t sneak in. Start the song strong on the first note. Breath in deep before start of every note.

Try to memorise the pieces. Bring home instruments to practice. Make sure you know every part of the piece very well.

Figure out the parts which you are still unsure of. The "‘james bond’--Figure A to figure B" and change in time signature parts in la storia are very messy and muddy. Quaver parts for brasses must be crystal clear. Slow parts must flow smoothly. For overture no. 1, entry for every section must be clear. Don’t rush/drag the semi-quavers.

ALWAYS WATCH THE CONDUCTOR! Don’t stare at your scores. Bring up instruments smartly and swiftly before the start of each song or part. Get ready instruments a few bars before playing. Every section to synchronise on the bars to bring up/put down their instruments. Play with round and solid tone. THINK ROUND! For reed instruments, bring at least one extra reed along with you in case your reed breaks. Keep instruments and mouthpieces warm, esp brasses. Blow warm air through your instruments before entering concert hall. Play with confidence and tone. Please take this seriously. Correct the mistakes pointed out in each section before you go for SYF. Give it your best and live with no regrets. Do the seniors proud. Good luck for your SYF!

Now....my turn....alright....basically...whatever Aloysius said has already covered what i wanted to say....but a few things to add on....
Firstly-- Band....although discipline has been slack the past year or so..but...on that day...discipline is key....it makes the job of teachers....leaders easier and better.. Members...please listen to instuctions....if one that day...if the alumnis feel things are out of hand....we will have to ask you guys to do punishment...no choice.
Secondly-- Aloy mentioned about stage etiquette...RACHEL!!! Please sit in an "professional" manner pls...no legs on the stand....behind the chair. As regards to the whole band.....even when your part is a rest....please do not slouch and lean on the chair. Sit upright and look to the front....Percussions...please do not sit down even when you are resting....i am sure...just a few more bars...you have to play. Sit halfway on the chair...for the whole band....flutes and clarinets....put your instrument on your left leg....not right.
Sway with the music....play it like you are singing it!! Even not interested....at least move.

Flute(Right Arm): Project your sound, play louder, make tone less airy, make notes clearer esp running notes. Open your throat....make the sound more life like...flutes are like angels dancing in the sky....its that kind of feeling...the sound it makes...so lively and happy...not ear piercing. Once the sound is airy and choppy....its just sounds like a piece of metal that vibrates in the inner circumfrence producing a sounds.....

Clarinet( Left Arm):
Refrain from squeaking, cover open holes fully, polish up on fingerings, make running notes clear, don’t rush running notes, make tone rounder and less blaring, tonguing very rough, don’t tongue too hard, don’t tongue hard unnecessarily, listen out for each other for tuning. If the clarinet is played properly...it sounds like a "funeral" clarinet....just like an oboe...but...clarinet...is the "Butt" of the flute....it not only supports the flute on high notes....in also provides chords playing while the flute has melody or solo....so if either instrument sounds horrible....it will just be like the band without the two arms.....it takes two hands to clap. Control your high notes especially....heres a tip.....play with emotions....think of something that makes you really really really sad...that would make you cry on the spot....however....if you could cry...it would be awesome....highest level of emotions put into play...your note will naturally sound more refined and controlled...however....your guys have to really practice also...dont just depend on this..

Saxophone( Backbone):
Don’t play so rough, polish up on fingerings, running notes make it clearer, don’t rush/lag behind for running notes, play with more confidence, make tone rounder. Play together, esp altos. Saxophones...please also work on your tone...do not overpower....although clarinets are a little too loud on their high notes...doesnt mean you guys must play too loud also...go and listen to other pro saxophonist....try to copy their "sound"...their tone and such....although your need to practice...but at least you know what high notes and such should sound like...not irritating to the ear. Support the band...like what i typed....the backbone....one i break someones backbone...he/she may be paralysed the rest of his/her life...so the backbone must be strong...drink more calcium...LOL....i mean strong in the sense that you guys are steady and not easily affected by anything else..

Cornet( Mouth ):
Play louder esp 2nd and 3rd, playing very muddy, make tonguing clearer and shorter esp for la storia quaver parts, play with more confidence, get fingerings and notes right for ‘james bond’ parts, make tone rounder. Cravis....please play more often as a section...you guys have to gel with each other....its like your pair of lips not working...one refuses to close...your teeth may just end up being punched off...Cravis...you should be the only one playing loud....it goes the same for maisarah....fairusha and asharee..please ask them to play slightly louder please...cravis....play with a nice tone...just like the nice music you make on the piano....it is the same...if you have a bad tone...its just like a mouth hurling vulgarities at the judge....so please play with a nicer tone...its like someone licking up a horses ass....pai ma pi...

French Horn( Soul ):
Get pitching right, hit the correct notes when u enter, play with more confidence, enter and play together, listen out for each other for tuning. Play louder. Don’t rush your triplets. Yes...its great that you girls are playing louder....but please...louder doesnt mean play any o how you like....play nicely....pitching wise...you have to put more air through....you need to practice more...so that you know how much air you need for each note..its not the same airflow for every note. French Horn is like the soul of the band.....it injects life into the band...the melodious sound of the horn makes the people shiver....it serious....even in the Bible...it states that...so...play properly...you girls i am sure...will rise to the occasion.

Euphonium( Vocal Chords ) :
Play with confidence. Entry of counter melody must be strong and clear. Don’t rush on running notes. Figure out the notes for ‘james bond’ part. You girls must create swells in the song....la storia...create a rollet coaster of joy...fun...peace and not laughter...but emtional turbulence...LOL...the main thing is that your girls must make sure that everyone in the section is in tune....otherwise its sounds awful...because euphonuims are actually quite loud in their notes....their high notes...like the trumpets...which i can say would belong to the winds side already....cos its audible...people would be able to hear you clearly. Have Faith in yourselfs...you girls i know can do it!!!

Trombone( Legs ):
Make notes very clear esp when playing quavers in la storia. Transition from note to note must be fast and not muddy. Make tone rounder. Play out with more confidence. Yes....your notes must not be muddled up....tongue at the right note...dont just tongue when you have not even get the note...be precise in your articulation...Jian Ping...try to make your sound rounder...i know you are not blasting....but you still have to make your sound rounder....same goes for the whole band...Fast part...maybe i can accept....but for slow part...you gotta play like there is no tomorrow..as in...play like its the last time you are gonna play the trombone...treat it like your wife.....like she is gonna leave you already....you would cry and forgive for beggness...play it sadly...support the woodwinds and those having the melodies..Brenda....your high C is always a little flat...watch out for that.

Tuba( Butt ):
Play out loud. Hold full value for long notes. Take in very deep breaths before playing. Don’t fade your notes. Maintain the same volume of sound for holding notes. Practice hard....play a itsy bitsy louder than the band...you are the ass remeber...its just like a ass that way way smaller than the body....even if it falls...it still gets hurt....so there is no point...so please play with confidence....play the notes with their actual values....dont vut or extend it longer..

Percussion( Heart ):
Open up your arms when playing. For mallets, timpani and snare drum, play loud and with more confidence. Lift up your sticks and play with more force. For cymbals and base drum, play together. Always watch the conductor. Don’t stare at your scores. Wooden block parts in La storia is impt. Make sure play properly. You girls are the heart beat of the band...the driving force that keeps the band alive...imagine the band without percusiion....it is really boring...no life right?? Exactly thats what i mean...you girls are standing up....people and judges can see and know what you are doing...so please be presentable and have a correct standing posture..Timpani....Play with the accents if you have to...crescendo if you have to...i dont see or hear it at this point....Bass drum....dont play wrongly...it is really obvious and ugly to hear....cymbals too....dont crash anyhow...play nicely. practice more..

Alright....enough is said...the rest is up to you guys now...the fate lies in your hands....no pressure though...we(alumnis and ALUMNIS) wants you guys to girls to have this experience of going for SYF as enjoyable as possible...but not to neglect your music on your part...play all your best and we will be proud of you guys...no matter whats the outcome....i swear! Well.......todae's practice to me was an improvement......I could see that Adi and Rachael show more enthusiasm in their practice.....but that enthusiasm isnt enough.....it was really comforting to see them show interest in what they are doing.....Good Job.....but SYF is harsh.....no mistakes can be afforded there.....It is where you play your best to showcase to other schs and people of the public.
I want to congratulate the two of them and the Band as a whole!!! Well Done.....i was satisfied todae....but well....this wouldnt be enough for SYF....sad to say....alright.

Here is the breakdown of what each section should be focusing based on my experience in Band and under Ms Tan....what she would do if she was still the conductor. As a whole section....if not specified on a person.

Flute- Build chemistry within the section,blend your tone together... Technique wise....needs alot of work......you guys have to practice running notes.....technique doesnt build from playing songs alone....its build from the basics....The SCALES.....practice running up and down the scales as smooth and quick as you can.....This would improve your sensitivity with the notes when you see a new score......you could instantly play songs that has complicated note patterns like in the Overture No.1. Tone has to be build on a basis of emotions...applies to all instruments actually. Chorales....Any song that has a slow part that really pushes you or urges you to play with full emotions actually brings your tone out.....another way would be to practice in a place that a resonance....meaning that the sounds echoes....it would nuture the tone that you would have....but one thing for sure.... PRACTICE ITSELF WOULD BRING THE TONE.

Clarinet- Basing on the current standard...i would say the clarinets are safe....BUT....the only things you guys need to work on is your tone....your chords.....sounds raw....your tone is a little on the edgy side....sounds more like a parrot. It is not refined yet...dun worry..practice more. You articulation needs work too....la storia and Overture requires good articulation. Like i said...you guys wouldnt have a problem if your basics is strong....thats why you guys need more work now to strengthen your basics..Chong Tuck...doing a good job teaching the rest of the juniors....one more thing....i want to hear more emotions put into playing...thats all for clarinet.

Saxophone- Very well done as usual.....but dont get all mighty and great...there is more room for improvement for a bronze or silver..... Tone.....thats definite,need to build tone....you guys have strong technique....like senior like junior....refering to Alif. Anyway...all this can be achieved if you put your heart and soul into playing...its never too late...although it is quite late to achieve too big a thing at this point in time. No matter how strong each individuals are....you guys need to blend...its band we are talking about...not soloists....band is about give and take....but all for a good cause....it reaps benefits for the band as a whole...everyone plays good music.

Cornet- Cravis....please work on your tone.....Ashari is doing well but needs to project himself.....be confident in playing....he is picking along fine. Cravis,when maisarah and fairusha comes back, please brief them on their parts....make sure they know what they are playing...Get hold of them when they dun come for practice....make sure they come all the way till SYF...after that can loosen the grip a little...but for now....discipline. Technique and Tone. Dont take this for granted....if wei jun comes back....i cant save you anymore if you dont heed my advice and work on it now....so please do practice hard.

Horns- all right....you girls are only sec 3 and 2....you girls should be playing at least 3/4 of Qui Yi's standard by now....so buck up....i know you girls can do it.....you girls need to work on technique and tone.....which is have been saying for other sections as well.....anyway.....bring home and practice....if you find it a hassle.....stay back for your own practice in sch on tues and thurs ......it would certainly help.. trust me. Put more hardwork and determination and attitude into whatever you guys are doing....your girls are bright...i know it....but you girls really have to work hard....you have a mountain to climb.....

Trombone- You guys have to really maintain your old standard under Siti....you guys are good....just off your own mark....just sliding back a little....dont worry....things can change for the better if hardwork and seriousness is shown....dun worry...you guys can do it!! You guys know how to play and what to play....but the problem is....its not perfect...,its just the first stage of mastering a song......second is to play with articulation and dynamics with tone. You guys are strong.

Euphoniums- Cheryl....work on your articulation.....and technique.....tone as well....get geraldine back as much as possible....this all depends on your ability to control them now...its important to make sure they know how to prioritise their responsibiilities. Your main concern now is your technique now....the same to the whole section.

Tuba- Whole section has got to have sectionals more often together otherwise you guys cannot play together.....difference with your own tone and everyone's tone. Work hard and everything will be alright....tuba is fairly alright for now.

Percussion- You girls have to focus on your parts.....help one another if you can...percussion is easy to play....but the mark of a good percussionist is the way he/she plays the percussion . Add in the accents if needed.....crescendo if needed....dun let this minor details which might be small to steal the points away from your.

Whole Band- toade's practice was alright......improvement from the last.... Continue to work hard and excel in your instrument....its just these two to three months more...harness your every last bit of strenght and determination to leap over your circumstances. This is it......people will judge the band with this SYF...for two year will you hold the Tag" Gold,Silver or Bronze or touch wood....COP". Good Job and Good Luck!!!

By the way, leaders or any one.....if you guys want to have practice session on your own accord and you need help...can always call on the ever gracious and accomodating Alumnis.......we will be willing to help....but please let u know in advance.

Cheryl, Chong Tuck....was thinking if you guys could get the whole band back on non-band days.........like a extra practice...but this time....i and the alumnis will be taking instead of Mr Subronto. Let us know....we wont force....its your fate that lies in your own hands....forcing you can bring no happiness.

[Hey.. i've been advertising this blog to the members so if you've read this or come to know of this blog. TAG la..]

Lets go directly to the cruel hard facts. To be brutally honest, the band's morale is going in a downward spiral. Attendence. Drills. Tone. Mainly the things that are of utmost importance to the band community is deteriorating. Come on guys. Lets work together to bring up the band!!

A few things we hav to really work on.

Lets jus focus on the main..

1. Attendence.

2. Music.

3. Drills.

4. Attitude

Attendence. :/It has been a problem for a long long time.. Band mates.. this is the CCA that you've picked YOURSELF. sorry to say this but : you've made this choice. Bear the responsibility. Come for the practices. Like it ornot, its the CCA that YOU"VE PICKED.

Music. Truthfully, i know everyone in the band definitely share that passion in music. That common passion that made us choose band as our CCA from the start. Everyone can play well as long as you try hard enough and put in the effort. Everyone starts from scratch.

As quoted from what i learnt from the NCO camp. "Start from scratch and keep scratching."

No one can pick up a foreign instrument and starts playing miraculously. It all comes from hardwork and practice. Practice do make perfect. When you don't even come, how can you even play well?

*And play the music with your heart. From within yourself.

Attitude plays a part in this. Your attitude.

-Basic respect to conductors, to seniors.

-Hardwork, effort, dilligence towards learning, towards understanding.

I should not probe further. Whats most important towards our goal depends on each and every one of you. The band needs you.

Okay. Our drills. Well, its really bad. Really. People, you've got to understand the need for drills

We're a military band. HELLO. Drills enforces discipline. Moreover, we need it for SYF- the marching video. So do your drills properly. Don't pout your lips and give angered expressions.

Don't show that attitude.

We're all in this together. [crap. sounds so "musical"]

AND SO, BAND lets WORK TOGETHER and ROCK OUR SYF RECORDS. Now. DROP the ideology of FAILING. WE ARE GONA CLINCH OUR SILVER back MAN!

Motivate each other. Come for practices. Work together as a band.

Chongtuck and me, really don't expect an overnite change- from a bronze band to a gold band.

All we need is your cooperation, your understanding. We will work together and get over the upcoming SYF. Lets change. Lets improve together, as a band, to achieve what we aimed for all along.

Once again. WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. LETS PROMISE THAT WE ALL PUT IN 101PERCENT FROM NOW ON. its never too late to start now.

This "talent showcase event"(like what jon wrote below) is only a few months away,
the attendance of the band is extremely bad,
you guys are not working together and helping each other,
during band practices,
some might be doing their own stuffs(eg. reading newspaper, chatting, using the phone and etc.),
all these things are unacceptable!
do you think you come for band practice for fun, joy and laughter?
yes, it may be for fun, joy and laughter,
but not doing your own stupid stuffs,
no.1 - come for practices and be on time
no. 2- be attentive during practices
no. 3- never talk back to your superiors
no. 4- don't slack during the sectionals
no. 5- last but not least, enjoy what you're playing =)
i've seen lots of things happening in band,
during sectionals,
i see people not practicing,
you might suffer from now till the end of SYF,
but when the result is out,
none of you will fail to smile,
chocolate does not make you smile,
it's the success,
i know i'm crapping from the top to the bottom,
but if understand what i'm saying,
the band will be better than now,

Hey guys...... i don't know who is the person who posted the previous post......although i have a rough idea......but hey,thats not the point i am trying to make here. The point is that i kinda agreed with what he/she has made in the post. The point being that the Band is no longer what its known for or what we have always been expecting. Alright....starting from scratch, u guys need to buck up on your drills....what i saw on friday....was horrible......no offense but its for your own good and well-being. I have heard of rumours saying that people actually lied in order not to fall-in, this pisses me off as this kind of thing has never been encountered in my four years in Band. Secondly......next year is SYF.....i cant stress the importance of this event.....i dont think SYF deserves the term...."competition".....rather its the test of your abilitiy as a Band to showcase your understanding for each other in music and to express your passion for music on stage to other music lovers.....however...its not to be taken for granted. Having said all these.....it wont mean anything if what i said isnt done....the seniors will try their best to go back and help....but the problem is, no one is willing to accept our help, i see faces that deterred me when i took the squad for a moment last friday. That really made me feel that Band is no longer what it used to be. The are a few ground rules that need to be drilled before things can carry on in the right path. Firstly, drills need to be taken seriously,no showing of faces when things gets tough...its good for you anyway.....it trains your muscles..... dont u want more biceps and triceps when u do push-ups? It also trains the discipline in Band, if you guys cant listen to Cheryl or Chong Tuck, i wont dare to think that your music will be of any standard good enough.
Secondly, although i havent heard u guys play, but what i read tells me that you guys arent at your maximized potential, you guys need to come regularly for practice....thats basic committment, then it take extra commitment to practice hard and put in 110% whenever you are in the music room. Train your tone....play lots of emotional song like celebration for winds and percussion.....etc..... and chorales....its the easiest songs to play but builds tone at the same time. Put more emtion and effort in your music making, u guys just play for the sake of playing,u need to put in effort. Dont come if you have no intention of making good music,dont be a pull-down.
Alright,i have to go Church now....cant type anymore,but one last thing,please put in effort and make good use of the instruments you guys have now. Dont let it go to waste, its the hard work of Ms Tan for the past years.....i dont think sec 1s and 2s know her.....but hey....you gotta agree we have a sweet music room with awesome instruments. Although i cant say that my batch id a great job or whatsoever,but change is good....just like what Obama says. Dont be a trend follower, be a trend setter. Dont follow what people think or say about you....you know yourself better than anyone......whatever people say,the know nothing...they say Ms Tan's music is boring and stuff, not like mr Subronto, but what the hell, Ms Tan's music was the one that got us Silver and not Bronze!!

Is the camp enjoyable? I know is nice and fun rite?

Well, seeing the sec3s taking over our posts, i felt kind of relieve because i can concentrate on my studies but on the other hand, i m kinda worry the juniors. Like wad Mr Nonami had said, juniors are very important while the seniors are going to die...so i hope that the new leaders will do their best in training the juniors. JiaYou~~~ :)

Another thing i wanna to say to the leaders is, communication. Communicate more with the juniors. Especially to the sec1s. See what they need in the band.

So much for band camp!No doubts the concert was a success.
Even though we're busy and tired preparing for concert...doing all the what-nots.
We won't forget about having fun!
Games were great and it's all about getting WET!

Well...Camp is over,fun has stopped.

Frankly speaking,everyone has great potential and it was hard to decide.
Since it has been decided.

19/6/08 One day after Band Camp

Had great fun at the camp for the past three days.....but i would like to thank the New Committee Members.......

Drum Major- Chong Tuck

Head Secreatary- Nisa(Head),Amanda, Geraldine
Head Librarian- Syafiqah(Head),Rauda
Head Quarter Master- Brenda(Head),Shafeeq

Section Leaders:

Flute and Clarinet: Chong Tuck
Saxophone and French Horn: Syafiqah
Cornet and Trombone: Nisa
Euphonium and Tuba: Amanda
Percussion: Faiz

Hope that everyone would be able to work together to achieve greater heights with the Band.Please restore the glory TSMB once had long time ago and is now long gone. Leaders please have more initiative in things and do not overlook on issues that might be of importance to the Band. Deal issues with caution and do not act rashly on impulse,it doesnt help at all.

Quarter Masters, please continue to take constant care of instruments and not let them rot. Keep in account every instrument going in and out of the Band room. The instruments are the soul of the Band...do not lose them. If there's need of help, you can ask the ex-QMs or people who have been a QM once. Being a QM is not just about taking care of instruments, there are still a lot of logistics to do. Lastly, make sure each and every of the instruments are maintain in the best condition it can be. The QMs will come back and check on things when we have time. There's still more but this is a blog, not a place to explain things.

Librarian, please also do the same...take care of the scores...do not let them become vegetables and waste paper. They are the books that allows the Band to gain knowledge.

Secreatary, please maintain or even better increase the standard of our Band's image...you guys are part of our Band's image consultant. Make sure when there are outings,they are dressed neatly with their badges and stuff. The notice boards are also our advertisment flyers....make sure they newlyu decorated in a way that just by looking at the notice board...it tells the rest of the school how much fun and interesting is Band other than just music playing and making.

Student Conductor, please assist Mr Subronto in conducting the Band if there is a need. Always upgrade yourself musically and do not always be shy to tell them what you feel about their music if it need improvement. If you need help,u can always call me or ask me when i am back.

As for the top 3 posts....all i have to say that u guys have to work even more closely and you guys are the Head and the brain...not saying the rest aren't just that leaders of the Band are those who thinks of ways to improve the Band and change evil into good. You guys are the parents of the Band, do not lose your children and make sure they aren't bullied. Keep them in safe hands.

That is all i have to say to the New Committee Memebers. Please make sure the Band's standard doesnt drop but actually increase. Of course it would be great to increase it rather than drop. So Good Luck to the New Committee once again and may you guys be able to work together to achieve great heights, including even the sectional leaders and assistants.

On mon, 16 June, please report at 8am outside the band room. Please RMb to bring the following things...

Kit List:
-Band Uniform + marching shoes + band badge, instrument badge
- 3 sets of PE attire
- 4 sets of home clothes: *darks clothes
- undergarments for 3 days
- toiletries: *toothbrush *shampoo *soap *toothpaste
- sleeping bag
- slippers
- TOWEL!!! (rmb to bring!!!)
- personal medication
- writing materials such as papers and pens

Its a 3 day 2 night camp. Hope everyone have fun and enjoy the camp. :)

Next band practice will be on 12 March Wednesday 9am to 5pm. Please bring along some money for lunch as it is not provided. A non-residential camp will be held on 13 march Thursday. Kit list will be given on Wednesday. Also, please bring $3 for Fuchun Band Concert on Wed. The concert is held on 29 march 730pm at Republic Poly. Those who cannot make it for the wed prac, please produce a letter. People who need letter for camp to your parents please kindly go and take the letter from the General Office on Mon after 10am.
